LIV - WOMEN SPECIFIC BIKES

LIV is a woman specific cycling brand that put women first.  They design bikes and gear that optimize fit, performance, and fun on every ride—from the solo work commute to the family weekend adventure, from the technical singletrack to the open road.

According to LIV'S research, the majority of women will be more comfortable and efficient on a bike designed for them. Looking at the data, average anatomical and physiological differences between women and men lead them to the conclusion that most women need a bike option other than men’s or unisex bikes.

This view is however challenged by some, Specialized, for example, cites the data collected by its Retül fitting program, “We’ve learned that all riders are unique, and that the stereotypes of body shape are largely inaccurate. Body proportions vary as much within a gender as between them. Based on this, all of our bike platforms are designed for all riders.”

WHY DO WOMEN CYCLE LESS IN CITIES?

We're big fans of Stravas Metro Project that collect anonymous cycling data and provides it for free to urban planners, trail networks, city governments and safe-infrastructure advocates to understand mobility patterns, identify opportunities for investment and evaluate the impact of infrastructure changes.

study conducted by the University of Turin looked at and found various reasons why fewer women cycle than men in urban areas using this data from Strava.
