HEXLOX UNIVERSAL THRUAXLE

IMPORTANT!  READ THIS FIRST!

Never dissassemble the Hexlox Thru axle by turning the Headpart anti-clockwise

If you ever need to dismantle, or take the Hexlox Universal Thru axle apart - DO NOT UNSCREW - ANTI-CLOCKWISE - THE HEADPART! - you'll brake the internal Expanding Ring.

Instead you MUST RESET the axle to it's original, disassembled state.

At one point - Step 3b - in the assembly process, we ask you to "reverse direction and tighten to fingertight and then add another 180° turn."  This is required!  But only at this point in the assembly process.

If you need to reset the axle watch the Reset video on how to do this (or scroll down to the bottom of this page for instructions on how to do this)

*For most users the assembled axle might initially seem too long for your fork or dropout. This is normal. Thanks to the internal Expanding Ring the Hexlox Universal Thruaxle automatically adjusts to your fork or dropout width for a perfect fit.

WHAT YOU'LL GET FROM US - FRONT

1x Head Part - Long piece

1x Threaded End Part - 2 different threads for a correct fit to any fork.

1x Grub Screw

2x Expanding Ring - Small ring already installed on Head Part + replacement ring

THE TOOLS YOU'LL NEED

You need a hex tool and a wrench to asseble the Hexlox Thru axle

Allen Key/Hex Tool - 6mm

Wrench - Size 12 To hold the Threaded End Part securely during assembly

ASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION

1. REMOVE YOUR CURRENT THRU AXLE

Remove your current thru axle

Remove your current thru axle from your fork or dropout, but keep it nearby, you might need it in the next step...

2. SELECT THE CORRECT THREAD ON THE THREADED END PART

Select the correct thread on your thru axle

Determine the correct fit of the Threaded End part by inserting it into your fork or dropout.  Quick Tip!- Do it from the outside, it's easier 😉

The fit needs to be stable and tight! Try all threads to make sure you get the correct fit.

Unsure? Use your original axle as a reference to how the correct fit should feel like.

3. ASSEMBLE THE HEXLOX UNIVERSAL THRU AXLE

3a - Screw the Head Part into the Threaded End part - The threaded part of the Head Part must go all the way into the Threaded End part, but only until the threads on the Head Part are not visible anymore.  Important! - Stop when the threads on the Head Part are not visible anymore. Do not screw any further since this could cause damage to the Expanding Ring.

3b - Reverse Direction - In the opposite direction (anti-clockwise) tighten until it's fingertight - and then add another 180° turn. The axle is now ready to be installed.

*For most users the assembled axle might initially seem too long for your fork or dropout. This is normal. Thanks to the internal Expanding Ring the Hexlox Universal Thruaxle automatically adjusts to your fork or dropout width for a perfect fit.

 4. INSTALL THE NEW AXLE

If your existing axle has a cone-shaped washer You’ll need to reuse it. If you can’t use the old washer, use the washer that we supplied and install that onto your axle with the conical side facing the fork or frame.

Insert your new axle into the fork normally and tighten with a 6mm Hex Tool/Allen key. Ensure that the thread is tightening on the other side of the fork or frame. Tighten to 10 Nm - or to the settings your bike’s manufacturer recommends.

IMPORTANT!

IF YOU NEED TO CHANGE SOMETHING - WATCH THE RESET VIDEO FIRST

If you ever need to dismantle, or take the Hexlox Universal Thru axle apart, or if you'd like to use the axle on another fork or dropout - DO NOT UNSCREW - ANTI-CLOCKWISE - THE HEADPART!

You MUST RESET the axle to it's original, disassembled state.

It’s very important that you do not unscrew - anti-clockwise - the Head Part from the Threaded End Part. This will damage the internal Expanding Ring

At one point - Step 3b - in the assembly process, we ask you to "reverse direction and tighten to fingertight and then add another 180° turn"  This is required!  But only at this point in the assembly process.

Watch the Reset Video - or scroll down to the bottom of this page ⬇️

5. INSTALL THE GRUBSCREW

Hexlox Grub Screw

Insert the Grub Screw into the end of the new axle. Start with the longer grub screw. If it is too long and does not screw all the way in, use the short Grub Screw. Insert with the pointy end facing outwards and add 3 drops of linseed oil or thread locker onto the thread. Tighten until all the threads are not visible anymore.

Congrats, you're done 😉

HOW TO RESET THE HEXLOX THRU AXLE

If you need to change something and take the axle apart, you have to reset the Hexlox Universal Thru axle. It’s very important that you do not unscrew (anti-clockwise) the Head Part since this will damage the internal mechanism. Instead, you must reset it to its original state.

1. REMOVE THE GRUB SCREW

Remove the Grub screw

Screw the Head Part clockwise into the Threaded End part to remove the Grub Screw. When the Head part engages the Grub Screw, rotate the head part back and forth, clockwise/anti-clockwise to ease the grub screw out.

2. EXPOSE THE EXPANDING RING

Expose the expanding ring

Once the Grub Screw is removed, continue to screw - clockwise - the Head Part into the Threaded End Part until you can see the Expanding Ring.

3. REMOVE THE EXPANDING RING

Pry loose the expanding ring

Pry loose the Expanding Ring using a small, flat screwdriver. Be careful and keep a finger on the ring since it could easily spring away and get lost. If you loose it we have included a replacement ring in the packaging 😉

4. UNSCREW THE HEAD PART

UNSCREW THE HEAD PART

With the Expanding Ring removed it's now safe to unscrew - anti-clockwise - the Head Part from the Threaded End Part.

5. RE-INSTALL THE EXPANDING RING

The Expanding Ring has a rounded edge and a sharp edge. Identify the side with the rounded edge.

Put the Expanding Ring back onto the Head Part with the rounded end of the Internal Ring facing outwards - towards the end of the Head Part.

Lay the Internal Ring on a flat surface, with the opening facing upwards, and firmly press the Head Part back onto the Internal Ring.

The Hexlox Universal Thruaxle is now ready to be re-assembled, see top of page ⬆️
