The Link Nobody Hardened

On 19 October 2025, four thieves disguised as workmen rode a furniture lift to a first-floor window of the Louvre, cut through it and the display cases with angle grinders, and left with around €88 million in French crown jewels. Time inside the gallery: roughly four minutes. The cases had been reinforced in 2019 — but against an attack from *inside* the museum, not concrete-cutting tools from the façade.

Security is a chain, and the attackers found the one link nobody had hardened. Once the external access and the case fixings gave way, every downstream layer — guards, alarms, the building's fame — became irrelevant. The failure cascaded from a single unprotected joint.

The integrity of any enclosure lives in its fixings. When the fasteners holding a case or panel resist tools, you reclaim the minutes that defeat a smash-and-grab.
