How It Works

Hexlox protects the Allen bolts on your bicycle components with inserts that can only be removed using the Hexlox key. This provides discreet and effective security for your components.

Installation

Answer: No lock in the world is 100% theft-proof—not against a determined thief with enough time, motivation, and the right tools. That is simply the reality of bicycle and bicycle component security.

Most bicycle component thefts are opportunistic. Someone passes by a bike, notices that a saddle or wheel is not properly secured, and takes advantage of the situation. There are also organized professional thieves who operate systematically and come prepared.

Like all lock manufacturers, Hexlox designs products primarily to protect against opportunistic theft.

Hexlox is an anti-theft system specifically developed for bicycle components such as wheels, seatposts, saddles, and other parts secured with standard hex bolts. The system uses a small magnetic insert that blocks access to the bolt. Without the matching key, removing the insert is extremely difficult.

We always recommend combining Hexlox with a robust frame lock and securing the bicycle to a fixed object such as a bike rack or lamppost. Effective security relies on multiple layers—no single solution is sufficient on its own.

Question: How do the Hexlox key code, key, and insert work together?
Answer: When the Hexlox key and the Hexlox insert share the same code, they form a precise mechanical connection.

The shape of the key matches the shape of the insert, but only when both have the same three-digit code. Different key codes correspond to slightly different geometries.

That is why we refer to the Hexlox tool as a “key”—it functions much like a house key. If you compare two Hexlox keys with different codes closely, you will notice subtle differences in the shape of the tip.

Question: Can I remove the insert with a magnet?
Answer: No. The insert can only be removed mechanically using the matching key. External magnets have no effect on the system.
